Julya Xander Billhymer

Julya Billhymer has dedicated her life to the pursuit of justice, fairness, and ensuring Due Process is in place for all.

With 35  years (27 as attorney and 8 in law enforcement ) of experience as a criminal defense attorney , she has represented clients in both State and Federal courts, earning a reputation for integrity, balance, and compassion. Her extensive courtroom experience has prepared her to serve the people of Tarrant County with wisdom and accountability.

Before becoming an attorney, Julya served as a patrol sergeant in Tarrant and Dallas counties. This foundation in law enforcement gives her a unique perspective on the justice system—she understands the challenges faced by officers while also recognizing the importance of protecting constitutional rights. Her dual background allows her to approach cases with fairness and empathy, ensuring that justice is applied equally.

Julya earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Texas Woman’s University and her Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, now Texas A&M School of Law.

She is seeking election as Judge of Tarrant County Criminal Court No. 5, a court designated to handle family violence cases. Julya is committed to ensuring that every case is heard with compassion, every right is respected, and justice is delivered with integrity.

My journey to becoming a candidate for Judge of Tarrant County Criminal Court No. 5 has been shaped by decades of service, dedication, and a commitment to justice. With 35 years ( 27 as attorney and 8 in law enforcement ) of experience as a criminal defense attorney , representing clients in both State and Federal courts. This experience has given me a deep understanding of the complexities of the justice system and the importance of ensuring fairness for every individual who enters the courtroom.

Before practicing law, I served as a patrol sergeant in both Tarrant and Dallas counties. Those years in law enforcement taught me the realities of community safety, the challenges faced by officers, and the importance of protecting constitutional rights. This dual perspective—law enforcement and defense—has uniquely prepared me to serve as a judge who values both accountability and compassion.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Texas Woman’s University and my Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, now Texas A&M School of Law. These academic foundations, combined with my professional experience, have shaped me into a principled advocate for justice.

Now, as I seek election to Tarrant County Criminal Court No. 5, designated as the Family Violence Court, I am committed to serving with integrity, fairness, and empathy. Family violence cases demand careful judgment, compassion for victims, and accountability for offenders. My journey has prepared me to meet these challenges with wisdom and balance.

Every step of my career has been guided by a belief in justice that is fair, transparent, and rooted in community values. As judge, I will bring that same dedication to the bench, ensuring that justice in Tarrant County is delivered with both strength and heart.
